Focus

From the audience's point of view, focus refers to  where the viewer’s eye is drawn.

From the dancer/mover point of view, focus refers to:

  •      Single focus: looking in the direction of movement
  •      Multi-focus: changing head/eye focus during movements

ACTIVITY

Students engage in an exercise that illustrates the use of focus from a mover's point of view.

  1. About focus, I could not attend that class, but today I took the day doing two exercises, first, trying to keep my focus on my breathing, it was very difficult, I realized that in less than two seconds it was thinking about thousands of things and not stop working , accidentally my mind finished exhausted of so many ideas or worries that sometimes go through it. The second exercise I did was to sing trying to keep the focus on "the role" that is, what the music and lyrics want to express, but I also felt that before making a movement or looking at any point my mind lost concentration thinking if my movement was in tune with the music, however, With a lot of effort there was a moment where I changed and was able to keep the focus, and when that happened I felt my mind and body exhausted but my spirit was in the same tune as the aria that I was practicing. "joy"
